Chioma Akamelu and African women

A mixed media painting of Chioma Akamelu, a Nigerian-South African girl and 11 years old. She titled her painting 'face to Face with African women'. she made use of Newspaper, beads and acrylic on a straw board to achieve her creative venture. Chioma created 2 maps of Africa and conceptualized it into female figures. She used newspaper to cover the surface of the straw-board and at the upper part of the maps are cut out fabrics of ankara of different colours which is pasted in form of collage. while the faces are made of red and golden tiny beads, the female figures wore beautiful ear accessories to compliment their head gear. at the background of the painting are motifs made of triangular shapes. This artistic rendition bring to mind bead painting of great Nigerian artist like Jimoh Buraimoh. The young artist depicted African women as beautiful and culture persons.
